Free Webinar: Turbine Case Design with ASME VIII-2
Join us Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m. (U.S. Central Time)
Host: John Klaerner
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME BPVC) has long been used to ensure proper design practices to high pressure vessels for many applications. For many standard pressure vessels and heat exchanger, ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 1 is commonly used. However, for high temperature applications with more complicated (non-cylindrical) geometry, the code has many limitations in how to certify a pressure containing vessel like a complicated turbine case. ASME BPVC Section VIII-2 Part 5 allows for the use of Computational Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to meet ASME Design Requirements. This webinar will focus on how to properly apply ASME VIII-2 to the design of hot turbine cases and how to balance the need for large wall thicknesses to meet plastic collapse requirements while also adding features to allow for the need to meet fatigue requirements based on cyclic thermal loads. This webinar will focus on how to properly set up models according to the code and special considerations to make in the design of these vessels in order to meet all of the code requirements and designing a safe vessel for high pressure and high temperature applications for new age turbines looking to push the limits on temperature and performance.
