SwRI has led more than two dozen projects for the Department of Energy SunShot, now called the Solar Energy Technologies Office, to advance supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) technology for concentrating solar power plants. For one project, SwRI developed this turbo expander, which uses high-efficiency sCO2 hot gas to concentrate solar power energy.
