SwRI has received a $3 million contract from NASA’s Development and Advancement of Lunar Instrumentation (DALI) program to adapt the design of its Laser Absorption Spectrometer for Volatiles and Evolved Gas (LASVEGAS) instrument for operations on the Moon’s surface. This compact spectrometer, which can be integrated into rovers or carried in a single hand by an astronaut, precisely characterizes the volatile elements present in planetary atmospheres and surfaces, shown in this Artemis mission illustration.
