Free Webinar: Flow Induced Vibrations (FIV): Reducing the Impact on Piping Systems
Join us Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m. (U.S. Central Time)
Hosts: Sarah Simons
Flow induced vibrations account for the majority of noise and vibration problems that are not machinery induced. For some piping systems, such as centrifugal compressor piping, steam turbines, and other high flow or high density piping systems, FIV should be analyzed and prevented in the design phase; other flow disturbances, such as valves or heat exchanging tubes, are usually analyzed on-site after a problem occurs. Many different methodologies exist for evaluating and eliminating flow induced problems, but these can quickly result in over-designing a piping system. This webinar will cover the following topics:
- Piping geometries and disturbances that are common sources of FIV: closed piping stubs, thermowells, gate and flow control valve internals, HRSGs/coolers, PRV/SRVs
- When to evaluate FIV in the design stage and when to use it as a problem-solving technique
- A variety of case studies showing noise, vibrations, and valve chatter from FIV excitation with field data and solutions
