Multiphase Flow Meter (MPFM) Testing

The Multiphase Flow Facility (MFF) at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) provides field-like scale flow rates and process conditions ideal for MPFM testing. The MFF serves a global clientele for performance testing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), research and development, and the study physical flow phenomena related to metering.

Key Capabilities

  • Versatile Flow Conditions: Provides single-phase, two-phase (gas/liquid, liquid/liquid), and three-phase (gas/liquid/liquid) flows at process pressures of up to 3,200 psig (220 barg).
  • Tailored Testing Focus: Customize the test campaign to suit specific meter types, including wet-gas meters, watercut meters, GVF measurement technologies, and tomography units.
  • Measurement Accuracy: Each single-phase is independently metered to ensure accurate reference flow measurements. Phases are then commingled prior to the test section for the purpose of creating each unique test condition.
  • Closed-Loop Design: Ensures consistent fluid equilibrium at process conditions and allows for continuous operations throughout a test day. Stable test conditions can be achieved quickly and can be held for extended periods.
  • Custom Support: The MFF team can assist with test matrix development, data handling, analysis, summarization, and delivery. The facility is equipped to adapt to various meter sizes and piping requirements.
