We design and develop custom, unique laser, electro-optics and photonic systems. Optical systems provide a non-contact method for inspection, measurement and detection. Spectroscopic methods provide further characterization to identify specific properties of materials and objects. We provide inspection of powerline components for corona (ultraviolet) and heating (infrared) UV plume detection as well as other IR and UV imaging. Many systems developed by SwRI require optical components to emit or detect light. These systems vary from breadboard-mounted optics to complete, custom machined solutions. Laser-induced fluorescence, or LIF, is used to find foreign material in food products, inspect polymer degradation, for photocharacterization of abnormal tissue and other medical applications and to measure the degradation of jet fuels.
